What We Do

Our expertise in the publishing process helps some of the largest publishers quickly create innovative products. By managing projects from concept through finished files, we regularly solve some of our clients' toughest publishing problems.

The Quickview Bible

We created The Quickview Bible because 83% of human understanding occurs visually. Since many people struggle to read God's Word, we wanted to help them gain a better understanding of what is on each page of Scripture. This Bible contains over 350 full color, newspaper-style graphics that overview almost every Bible story. Although this edition is strikingly beautiful, our hope is that our fellow Bible readers will be able to better engage and understand the Bible text.

Zondervan, the publisher of this Bible, adds this: "When it comes to reading, learning, and understanding, the human brain needs both words and pictures. That’s where the NIV QuickView Bible comes in. Now you can navigate and understand the Bible easily with visual infographics. See the Bible as you never have before through at-a-glance snapshots that visually display key stories and insights from God’s Word. Using eye-catching infographics, the NIV QuickView Bible presents the most significant stories and facts from the Bible in an informative, understandable way. The lists, maps, charts and graphs help you develop a new understanding of the stories of the Bible. They are also a great way to get to know those books of the Bible you’ve never ventured to read before. Open it up to enjoy the word of God in a whole new way.
  • More than 360 infographics visually display key stories and insights from the Bible
  • 20 maps help you understand events recorded in the Bible

Game Plan for Life Bible

Without a doubt, Joe Gibbs is a winner.  Instead of leaning on his own advice to create a successful game plan for life, he directs readers to the timeless wisdom found in God's Word. This is a great Bible with a lot of helpful insight. You can learn more about it here.

We had a small role on this project and truly enjoyed becoming apart of Coach's ministry. During the course of the project we assisted the publisher (Zondervan) in some upfront concept creation and design work, and we concluded our role in the project by contributing a 30 page section in the back called Essentials of the Christian Life.

Speciality Bible Development

The product displays at July’s ICRS trade show were a visual reminder that a number of authors and publishers have relied on Hudson Bible to help expand their ministry through the publishing of theme-based study Bibles.

These Bibles help readers access the Bible and discover what God’s Word says on specific issues. For example:
  • The Case for Christ Study Bible (Lee Strobel, General Editor) helps skeptics, Christians and non-Christians alike, discover answers to tough questions. Is Jesus really God? Did Jesus rise from the dead? Why does God allow suffering? Can the Bible be trusted? Strobel’s in-depth, investigative style lends itself well to helping thoughtful readers vet the Bible’s claims and discover for themselves how God’s Word stands up to intense scrutiny.
  • The Life Journey Bible (Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend, General Editors) gives a holistic view of spiritual and emotional wellness. With hundreds of practical Bible applications from the authors of Boundaries alongside the Bible verses that inspired them, this Bible helps readers explore how God's truth helps them deepen relationships, navigate difficult times and people, and grow personally and spiritually.
  • The Lessons from Life Bible (President Jimmy Carter, General Editor) presents the wealth of 60 years of President Carter’s Bible study teaching notes alongside his best-loved Bible passages. While most people think of Mr. Carter as a politician, his life has been more devoted to his roles as Christian, humanitarian, and Sunday school teacher. The President has taught Sunday school for more than 60 yearseven during his term in the White House. The devotional and extra-biblical notes in this Bible distill decades of his research and teaching, delivered in his familiar, beloved style.
  • The Love Languages Devotional Bible (Dr. Gary Chapman, General Editor) provides a year's worth of devotions for people in relationships who are striving to grow in their relationship with God and each other. Dr. Chapman’s warm style and practical teachings give couples a firm foundation for their relationship, help them invest time together in God’s Word, and invite them into a conversation with God and with each other.

For each of these four projects, Hudson Bible has helped the publisher craft the initial product concept, outlined study notes for select Scripture passages, worked with the General Editor to develop content that is accurate to the teaching and context of the selected Scriptures, and ensured that the manuscript is completed (on time and on budget) according to the publisher's specifications.

These Bibles tie directly into the mission of the Hudson Bible
team—to help people read and engage the Bible. Because the Bible can at times feel confusing and inaccessible, these editions help readers find and apply the Bible's teaching on specific subjects, facilitating and fostering time in God’s life-changing Word.

KJV Study Bible Wins Retailers’ Choice Award

We were pleased to learn that The KJV Study Bible (Barbour) recently won the 2012 Retailer's Choice Award.

We created this Bible for Barbour Publishing and built the study note system from the 12 Volume Quick Notes Commentary series, which we authored for the same publisher over a period of three years. Our role on this project was to write and edit Bible study notes, design the interior, and complete the typesetting.

The homepage for the Retailer's Choice Awards says:

Introduced in 2001, the Retailers Choice Awards have been increasingly acknowledged as an important way of recognizing some of the most significant new life-changing products in the Christian retail industry. Retailers were asked to judge nominations on the impact they have had on staff and customers, including their ability to:
  • speak to people's hearts and evoke emotion
  • open people's minds to new ways of thinking
  • encourage and affirm Christ-like living.

Zondervan Releases NIV Life Journey Bible

During the last year, we helped Zondervan create the NIV Life Journey Bible. We worked closely with the General Editors (Henry Cloud and John Townsend--authors of Boundaries) to help formulate the concept, outline study notes, and help direct the manuscript into final form. (For more on our work with helping authors create study Bible content, click here)

At the conclusion of the project, Dr. Townsend offered this endorsement: “Chris is an excellent partner in content development, editing, and strategics. He is trustworthy, organized and is a warm person. I recommend his work highly.”

50th Anniversary Ministry Book

This spring we enjoyed working again with Guideposts as we created a book to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Crossroads (Canada's best-known TV ministry.)

We selected 50 stories to include in this volume, edited entries from Crossroad's TV personalities, designed the cover, interior, and completed the page layout. Because we completed the entire package in just a few weeks, we were able to provide a high quality book in time for Crossroads' celebration. The gold foil, embossing, and spot varnish help make this a truly beautiful book.

Samples of the interior layout are below (click to enlarge).

Author Coaching/Content Development

Moody Publishers has recently announced the Love Languages Devotional Bible with Dr. Gary Chapman, which will be released in the fall of 2012. Our team has been humbled to play a significant role in the concept development, manuscript creation, design, and typesetting of this devotional Bible.

In the last couple of years, we've been privileged to partner with publishers as they create specialty Bibles with Lee Strobel, Gary Chapman, Cloud & Townsend, and President Jimmy Carter.

Because Bibles are so complex, our role has varied with each project. At times our job has been to coach the author through the Bible development process. At other times, we've been called on to do some ghostwriting. No matter our role, our job has been to ensure the manuscript is completed in a way that honors God, respects the Bible, and stays true to the voice of the primary contributor.

Because this work is so specialized, this is where we tend to receive some of our highest praise. Read some of the endorsements we've received here.

Regarding Moody's Love Languages Devotional Bible, the publisher says this about their Bible:

Dr. Gary Chapman has become a trusted expert on relationships. His teaching is based on the timeless wisdom of God's Word. Gary has been described by his readers and listeners as passionate, relevant, hopeful, effective, and practical. He brings this expertise and style to The Love Languages Devotional Bible. Its straightforward approach to reading through Scripture, complemented by brief devotional readings that apply the text to real-life relationships, will deepen couples' understanding of God and of each other. This Bible gathers together in one powerful, life-changing resource all the best of Gary's decades of counseling experience.

The Love Languages Devotional Bible covers numerous topics, including: communication, expectations, roles, sex, conflict, money, children, in-laws, and more.

The Quickview Bible Development

This Bible is going to change the way Bibles are made.

Every few years, a new Bible helps people understand God's Word so profoundly that it influences how other Bibles are made. The QuickView Bible will be one of those.

This Bible is jammed with over 350 charts and graphs that turn the Bible's chapters into visuals that match today's magazine, internet, and business communication. These images communicate so well that within a few months we expect similar features to be appearing in other Bibles as publishers strive to best communicate God's Word.

We were honored to partner with Zondervan on this unique project. They took our idea, helped improve it, and allowed us freedom to create the best graphics for this special edition. We're grateful to them and eager to see this Bible in the hands of people.

12-Volume Commentary Series

Barbour re-releases our 12-volume QuickNotes Commentary Series as the beautifully bound Layman's Bible Commentary Series. These handsome volumes organize this very helpful series into a single ISBN (978-1-61626-789-6). The product is available June 1.

We wrote this series with the layperson in mind. Instead of losing our readers in scholarly debates, we present solid content in a clear and accessible format. Based on feedback we've received, this series has been helpful to professional Bible teachers as well as the average person who sits in a pew.

Our role on this 2600 page project was to create each volume's outline, recruit scholars to create the content, edit the material, and complete all interior design and typesetting.

Self-Publishing Services

As capacity allows, we've enjoyed helping Christian and non-Christian clients bring their message to the market.

Typically, we work with authors and coach them through the final stages of the manuscript, design their books, and complete the page layout. Because we also offer digital services, we can also help them bring their titles to the electronic market.

When we are finished with the production of self-published books, we help authors make their title available to Amazon and bookstores everywhere. Finally, we set them up with their own print on demand account so they can order books as needed without additional hassle or mark up.

Sacred Art

Ron DiCianni is a gifted artist, and we were proud to partner with him on this unique project. Our role on this was small by providing editorial and proofreading after the manuscript was completed. Our friends at Symbology Creative did the page layout.

This is a fascinating book that describes Ron's Resurrection Mural.

From the Publisher's website:

Sacred Art The Resurrection Through the Eyes of an Artist

Since the debut of Ron DiCianni’s The Resurrection Mural several months ago, we have desired to create a book that discusses the back story behind the mural, the characters, the choices and the steps that went into creating the world’s largest contemporary Fine Art depiction of Christ’s Resurrection. That wait is over! The book, Sacred Art – The Resurrection Through the Eyes of an Artist is here!

NIV Voices of Faith Devotional Bible

We teamed with Zondervan to create a unique set of devotions for this Bible. Each day you'll read a Scripture passage, an excerpt from a classic Christian author, and an excerpt from a modern writer. The result is a reminder that Jesus Christ and the gospel are the same yesterday, today, and forever.

From Zondervan's site:
The NIV Voices of Faith Devotional Bible combines Scriptural insights from both then and now to reveal God’s truth for your life today. Writers such as C.S. Lewis and Eugene Peterson, Oswald Chambers and Joni Eareckson Tada, St. Augustine and Brennan Manning, Thomas à Kempis and Dallas Willard---voices from yesterday and voices from today---join together to address a topic for a timeless and relevant devotional experience every day.

Time Inc., American Bible Society Books

Since 2006, we've been a trusted development partner of Time Inc., Home Entertainment and American Bible Society. Together, we've developed a number of magazine-style books that have been featured on newsstands across the country. With print runs in the hundreds of thousands, these books have found homes across the country.

For these books, we presented the concepts, created the outlines, wrote the manuscripts, and partnered with Symbology Creative on the cover and interior page layouts. The results have been some of the most beautiful and inviting books you can imagine. See samples of the page layouts below.

The Bible in World History

Did you know that within a span of 50 years Ezra completed the temple, Esther became queen, Socrates was born, and the Peloponnesian War was waged? Many Christians know their Bible and have studied world history, but they haven't put those two subjects together. This book helps you connect those dots, which enriches both your Bible reading and history knowledge.

Hudson Bible partnered with Dr. Stephen Leston, who was the perfect author for this book. With his direction, we completed editorial, art selection, design, and page layout. With over 300 color images, you'll find this book informative, easy to access, and quick to read.

Essentials of the Christian Faith NT

Sometimes the smallest projects are the most rewarding. We wrote the study notes for this little New Testament, which is a great discipleship tool. Short articles in the front of the Bible introduce each topic. Additional notes scattered throughout the text teach on topics such as:
  • Why Read the Bible?
  • Who Is God?
  • Why Does Sin Separate Us from God?
  • Who Is Jesus Christ?
  • Who Is the Holy Spirit?
  • How Can I Turn My Life Around?
  • Why Go to Church?
  • What Is God's Plan for Me?
  • How Can I Use My Gifts?
  • What Is Prayer?
  • What Is Faith?
  • Are We Going to Be Judged?
  • What Is God's Plan for Salvation?
  • How Can I Share My Faith with Others?

The bottom line: This is a great tool for church outreach, evangelism, and discipleship.
